Resorts from Sharm-El Sheikh had been reporting positive developments on the Sinai islands.

The GM of the Hyatt Resort told eTN in London, the hotel is enjoying good occupancy, including from American guests.

In a statement, Monarch Airline confirmed all flights into and out of Sharm had been canceled with immediate effect, and said it would work with the government to transport people home. Customers with holidays booked in the near future can arrange for a refund or re-book their flights.

At the same time it becomes more clear, the recent Russian airline crash may have been terror related. Britain today said no to flights from the U.K. to Sharm el Sheikh putting air traffic on hold.

EasyJet has canceled its flights to and from Sharm El Sheikh today. It said it will keep its flights to and from the resort under review.

British Airways said flights to and from the resort would probably be delayed by 24 hours. Customers are advised to contact the airline.

Flights from the Egyptian resort of Sharm el-Sheikh to the UK have been suspended after Downing Street revealed an “explosive device” may have caused a Russian passenger jet to crash.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) estimates there are around 22,000 Brits currently in Sharm el-Sheikh at the moment.

he FCO has said that extra consular staff have been deployed to Sharm and will be on-hand at the airport to provide assistance to anyone caught up in the delays.

Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond said people already in Sharm would be able to return to the UK, and said the government and security forces were working with their counterparts in Egypt to put into place “emergency procedures” for additional screening and security measures to ensure they will be able to get home either on their original scheduled return dates, or an earlier date if they wish.

There will be no flights out today (Thursday) while these measures are put into place, the government has confirmed, meaning the earliest flight out of the resort is likely to be on Friday.

EasyJet has said it will provide hotel accommodation for any passengers forced to spend an extra night in Sharm due to delays.

In addition, check the details of your travel insurance policy as it may include provision for long delays.

UK Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond has suspended all flights from the UK to Sharm el-Sheik, and said he will not allow planes headed for the UK to leave the airport either. Official FCO guidance now warns against “all but essential” travel by air to the resort – though overall, Mr Hammond added, the risk to tourists on the ground has not changed.

Armed security forces are in place at airports both in Sharm and Hurghada, as well as checkpoints around the perimeter of the towns, and routine security checks are carried out around hotels, resorts and popular tourist areas.
