Corinthia Hotels are pleased to announce the appointment of Matthew Dixon as general manager of the Corinthia Hotel in London, which is scheduled to open in late 2010.

The property will be Corinthia Hotels’ latest 5-star deluxe flagship with 300 hotel bedrooms and suites, three distinctive restaurants, a large central courtyard foyer, tea lounge, destination bar, a ballroom restored to its original splendor, the finest conference and boardroom facilities, and London’s largest luxury hotel spa complex.

Matthew Dixon is a well-regarded international hotelier with a strong 5-star pedigree developed in Europe and Asia. Originally Savoy trained, Matthew gained a sound knowledge of hotel marketing and operations at the group level and at the Claridges Hotel London. In his early career, he gained deluxe international experience in various senior executive roles with Mandarin Oriental in Hong Kong and Manila. He then spent a successful period with Rocco Forte hotels as general manager of the Hotel de Russie Rome and general manager of the Brown’s Hotel London.

Shortly after the opening of the Grove, the UK’s most luxurious hotel leisure and golf complex, Matthew joined the operation as general manager and until recently, developed and operated this 5-star international hotel destination as one of the world’s most unique and inspirational hotel conference and golf centers.

Matthew is a graduate of Cornell University, Westminster College London and the University of Pau in France. He is a member of the Institute of Hospitality and speaks Italian, French, and Swedish. He will be reporting directly to CHI Hotels & Resorts CEO and managing director Tony Potter and will commence his duties on September 21, 2009.

Alfred Pisani, Corinthia’s chairman and founder commented: “Corinthia Hotels have great pleasure at joining the 5-star deluxe London hotel scene and are proud to have this opportunity to develop one of London’s premier properties. Consequently, we welcome on board such a distinguished and experienced hotelier as Matthew Dixon to lead the hotel team.”

Tony Potter commented at Corinthia’s headquarters in Floriana, Malta, today: “I am absolutely delighted that Matthew Dixon has joined our senior management team, and I am confident that he is one of today’s most capable and passionate hoteliers in the world of hospitality. Matthew is an ideal fit for the Corinthia brand and our culture. He is the correct choice to lead our team in establishing the Corinthia Hotel London as the finest 5-star property in the city. On a personal basis, I am looking forward to working with Matthew and achieving our goals and objectives within a very rapid timeframe and establishing the property and Corinthia Hotels as a major global player.”

The Corinthia Hotel London is presently being totally transformed from the original Metropole building on Northumberland Avenue, together with the adjoining 10 Whitehall Place. The property was acquired from the Crown Estate last year by a consortium led by Corinthia Hotels, who are now transforming what was the original hotel from the 1880s and subsequently part of the Ministry of Defense, into one of the capital’s most luxuriest hotels with room size averaging 45 square meters. Accommodation will include multi-level penthouse suites and terraces affording spectacular views of the river Thames, Trafalgar Square, and Whitehall.

The adjoining 10 Whitehall Place property is being redeveloped to include a 2,500-square-meter luxury spa, as well as a suite of 12 exclusive residences ranging from 250 square meters up to over 1,000 square meters.

Corinthia Hotels, as an owner and operator of upscale properties, have presently amassed a collection of over 1 billion Euros in owned hotels in St. Petersburg, Malta, Lisbon, Tripoli, Prague, Budapest, and now London, besides operating hotels for third parties in key locations.
