Den episke otte-dages rejse startede fra Bangkok fredag den 21. juni og vil have kørt 3,000 km, når den ankommer til den bhutanske hovedstad Thimphu fredag den 28. juni. Ruten følger den trilaterale motorvej Myanmar-Thailand-Indien gennem de tre lande, inden den går ind i Bhutan gennem Phuentsholing ved Bhutan-Indien-grænsen torsdag den 27. juni.
'Bhutan-Thailand Friendship Drive - Connecting Peoples of the Two Kingdoms by Land' er en af flagskibsbegivenhederne til minde om de 30th jubilæum i 2019 for etableringen af diplomatiske forbindelser mellem Thailand og Bhutan. Det er også til fejring af den lykkebringende kongelige kroning i Thailand og afspejler begge landes ærbødighed over monarkiinstitutionen, hvor Bhutan også har en konge.
Mr. Chattan Kunjara Na Ayudhya, TAT-vicegeneraldirektør for international markedsføring - Asien og det sydlige Stillehav, sagde at denne begivenhed som det første venskabsforløb mellem Thailand og Bhutan sigter mod at styrke forbindelserne på alle niveauer mellem de to kongeriger.
Deltagelse i 'Bhutan-Thailand Friendship Drive - Connecting Peoples of the Two Kingdoms by Land' er 21 deltagere, bestående af embedsmænd fra den kongelige thailandske regering, Royal Bhutanese ambassade, Thairung Union Car Public Company Limited og to ungdomsrepræsentanter - en hver fra Thailand og Bhutan.
